ABOUT / Physical Fest

Physical Fest is an international festival of physical theatre based in Liverpool, UK, hosted by Tmesis Theatre.

Established in 2004, Physical Fest is the only festival of its kind in Europe that specialises solely in physical theatre. We bring local, national and international artists to the city with an emphasis on work that hasn’t been to Liverpool or the UK before.

Each year our diverse programme of performances, workshops, street theatre and debate attracts audiences and participants from across the world. We transform venues and spaces across the city during the festival bringing our unique energy and artistic flair. We also deliver Young Fest, a weekend of performances and workshops for young people and their families preceding the festival.

Physical Fest has established a reputation for its warm and creative environment, which seeks to stimulate and challenge both artists and audiences, and its commitment to supporting new work.

We regularly provide training bursaries for developing new work and for production training positions. Our annual Fest Live event provides a showcase for testing new physical work; many Fest Live artists have returned with fully developed performances.

We nurture young talent by hosting a new yearly performance by Tmesis Theatre Graduate Company: a graduate physical theatre training and performance project.

Our volunteer programme provides meaningful training opportunities for recent graduates, with many using their festival experiences as a springboard for launching their own careers.

Interested in being part of Physical Fest? Our next festival will be in 2019, we will have an open call for extracts of new work in Jan 19, but if you are interested in performing please invite us to see your shows, as we usually only programme work we have seen live!
